In Kharkov, Ukraine’s leading publishers and government officials will meet on May 28-29 on “Knizhkova Rada” to discuss the necessary steps for the development of national publishing market.

The forum expects the high level representation by both the publishing business and the authorities.

It will be attended by the Minister of Culture Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, the Chairman of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine Oleg Nalivaiko, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Culture and Spirituality Nicholay Knyazhytskyy, the leader of the parliamentary fraction of BPP Yuriy Lutsenko.
The forum will also be attended by Tobias Voss, the Vice President of the Frankfurt Book Fair, a major trade fair in the world.

The Ukrainian business at the forum will be presented by the director of the Association of Book Publishers and Distributors Alexander Afonin, the heads of leading publishing houses (KSD, Ranok, Vivat, OLP, etc.), the director of the Lviv Forum of Publishers Alexandra Koval et al.

As one of the initiators of the forum, the president of the Group of companies “Factor”, Serey Polituchy noted, today the Ukrainian market is at a turning point.

“After the introduction of VAT exemptions for Ukrainian books and import duties on Russian book products, it has developed a fundamentally new situation on the market, and we all feel that we are on the eve of growth. But at the same time, there are lots of restrictive circumstances, hindering this growth. We offered to meet for the first time at the same table in such a representative team and discuss what needs to be done to ensure the ongoing development of the market. I hope Knizhkova Rada will become a constant lobbying tool for supporting the Ukrainian book”, – said S. Polituchy.

In particular, during the forum will be discussed the taxation in the industry, the problem of identification of Ukraine in the book world as a bilingual country, the methods of dealing with counterfeiting products and online piracy, the questions of reviving of reading culture, and issues related to the content of library collections etc.

Knizhkova Rada will take place within the first Book Festival opened in Kharkiv «Kharkiv BookFest», which runs from May 15 to May 30. The organizers of the festival are the Group of companies “Factor”, the publishing “Vivat”, Kharkiv City Council and the Charitable Foundation of Yuri Sapronov.
